The dogfish neuromuscular junction: dual innervation of vertebrate striated muscle fibres?

چکیده

In the myotomal muscles of the dogfish, Scyliorhinus canicula, there are 2 major types of fibre. The red fibres at the periphery of the myotome receive a distributed en grappe pattern of innervation. There are subjunctional folds at these endings, and the nerve terminals contain vesicles around 50 nm in diameter. In contrast to this, the white twitch fibres of the myotome are innervated focally, by 2 nerve fibres passing to the same motor end-plate. These 2 fibres contain vesicles of different types. One type of nerve terminal contains vesicles around 50 nm in diameter; these terminals resemble those upon the red fibres. The other contains vesicles up to 100 nm in diameter, frequently possessing a dense core. It is suggested that the white twitch fibres of dogfish are innervated by 2 separate axons, possibly containing different transmitter substances.

Differential requirement for MuSK and dystroglycan in generating patterns of neuromuscular innervation.

Vertebrates display diverse patterns of neuromuscular innervation, but little is known about how such diversity is generated. In mammals, neuromuscular junctions form predominantly at equatorial locations, giving rise to a focal innervation pattern along a central endplate band. In addition, vertebrate striated muscles exhibit two nonfocal neuromuscular patterns, myoseptal and distributed inner...

Effects of Buthus eupeus Venom on Neuromuscular Transmission on Striated Muscle In Vitro

In this study, effects of Buthus eupeus venom on chick biventer cervices nerve-muscle preparation were investigated by twitch tension method. The venom, at 1.3 ?g/ml, increased contractile responses in indirect stimulations. These effects were milder in direct muscle stimulations. It also caused significant enhancement in postjunctional sensitivity as assessed by responses to exogenous acetylch...

On the Nervous Regulation of Gill Blood Flow in the Dogfish (scyliorhinus Canicula)

The motor innervation of the gill blood vessels of the dogfish Scyliorhinus canicula L. has been investigated by electrical stimulation of (1) the branchial branches of the IXth and Xth cranial nerves in isolated perfused 1st holobranch preparations and (2) both Xth cranial nerves in whole anaesthetized fish. The observed vascular responses to nerve stimulation appear to be entirely due to cont...

Effects of Black Scorpion Androctonus crasicuda Venom on Striated Muscle Preparation in vitro.

Effects of venom from black scorpion Androctonus crasicuda (AC) were determined on isolated chick biventer cervices nerve-muscle and mouse hemidiaphragm preparations using twitch tension method. The isolated nerves were stimulated by electrical stimulator and response to each stimulus was recorded. The venom mainly acted prejunctionally to facilitate neuromuscular activity due to an increase in...
